Piecing the Argyle Diamond Blocks

Piece the 20 hexagons, following the directions on pages 87-88.

From Fabric B, cut (4) 5" strips across the width. Cut (40) 60° triangles (12 from each strip). Piece these triangles to two opposite sides of each hexagon, as on page 88, figs. 4-16 and 4-17.

Piecing the Setting Blocks

Follow the instructions on page 89, substituting these measurements and quantities.

From Fabric C: cut (6) 4 3/4" strips across the width; cut (32) 60° diamonds.
Cut (2) 3" strips across the width; cut 16 half-diamonds, using the Super 60
® tool as shown on page 113, or use this method:

Use a ruler with both 30° and 60° lines, such as an Omnigrid®. Place the ruler at one end of the strip with the 30° line on the lower edge of the strip, and cut. Place the 60° line of the ruler on the angled edge and cut. The cut piece should have the same angles as Guide A2 on page 129, although it will be larger. To cut the next piece, again place the 30° line on the lower edge, aligning the ruler with the end of the last cut. Repeat as needed.

From Fabric D: cut (5) 4
3/4" strips across the width; cut (30) 60° diamonds.
Cut (2) 5" strips across the width; cut (20) 60° triangles.

Piece 12 diamond blocks, 8 top and bottom setting triangles, and 4 corner setting triangles.

Assembling the Quilt and Adding the Borders

Use the quilt assembly diagram on page 90 as a guide, but arrange the main fabric blocks in five rows with four blocks in each row.
Sew the rows together. At this point the top will measure about 48
3/4" x 68".

Cut (5) 1
1/2" strips for the inner border and (7) 2 1/2" strips for the outer border. Add the borders, following the instructions on page 90.
