 Finishing the Blossom Unit
Add corners to the blossom units as shown, using the quarter-square triangles cut from the 31/4" squares. Press the seams toward the blossom unit, or open.
Add the half-square triangles cut from the 43/8" squares to the sides of the blossom units. To add the first triangle, place the triangle right side up with the long bias edge on the right. Place the blossom unit right side down as shown, lining up the outer corner of background fabric with the tip of the triangle. Note that the tip of the large background triangle extends 1/4" at the bottom of this seam.
Press the seam open. Sew a large background triangle to the other side of the blossom unit. At the beginning of the seam, the triangle tip should extend 1/4" as shown. The other triangle tip should line up with the outer corner at the end of the seam. Clip the tips next to the quarter-circle, and press this seam open.
The completed blossom unit should look like this.
