Finishing the Block
Trim the triangle tips from the top of the blossom units. At this stage the blossom units should measure 4" x 71/2".

Trim the blossom units to 33/4" x 71/2". The new edge will be at the base of the quarter-circle, or just below it. This trimming step creates a more natural-looking calyx, so the flower blossom won't look like it's balancing on top of the stem.

Stitch the blossom unit to the stem unit. Press the seam open.

To shape the leaves, warm them with an iron on a silk setting. Allow to cool slightly to prevent burnt fingers, then pinch the ends of the leaves together for a few seconds. For easier handling, you may want to wait until the top is quilted before shaping the leaves. The leaves will hold their shape even through washing. However, you can reshape them at any time by reheating and pinching them again.
